Trey Pringle Claims Northern Section MVP as All-Star Teams Honor Elite High School Basketball Talent
The Northern Section has unveiled its prestigious All-Star basketball teams for the 2025-26 season, recognizing 30 exceptional high school players who distinguished themselves during an outstanding campaign filled with championship runs and individual brilliance.
University Prep junior Trey Pringle captured the most coveted honor, earning Northern Section MVP recognition for his exceptional leadership and performance throughout the season. This marks Pringles second consecutive first-team selection, demonstrating his sustained excellence at the highest levels of regional high school basketball.
Pringle shared first-team honors with an impressive group of elite players, including Redding Christian junior Micah Skinner, who played a crucial role in leading the Lions to a state championship this season. The Lions remarkable season represents one of the most significant achievements in Northern California high school basketball.
Weed senior Jaxon King, who claimed MVP honors during the 2024-25 campaign, earned another first-team selection alongside Foothill senior Matt Poulsen and Chico senior Davis Parent. Both King and Poulsen repeated their first-team selections from the previous season, showcasing the consistency that separates elite players from their peers.
Oroville coach Rob Anderson received the newly named Phil Bryant Northern Section Coach of the Year award after guiding his team to the Division IV section championship game. The honor reflects Anderson tactical expertise and ability to maximize his roster talent during a memorable postseason run.
The Redding area produced several standout performers who earned recognition on the All-Section teams. Enterprise guard Julian Turner secured second-team honors while teammate Jakye Rawls earned third-team recognition. Redding Christian continued their impressive representation with Darren Goodman achieving second-team status and Collin Matos, the sections leading three-point shooter, earning third-team recognition.
On the girls side, Foothill junior Madison Hart claimed MVP honors following an exceptional season that established her as one of Northern Californias premier players. Hart demonstrated remarkable consistency and leadership throughout the campaign, elevating her team performance during crucial moments.
Redding Christian freshman sensation Weslynn Skinner joined Hart on the first team, showcasing the incredible talent emerging from the Lions program. West Valley Rainessa Matthews rounded out the first-team selections, representing the depth of elite talent across the Northern Section.
Additional Redding-area standouts earned recognition throughout the All-Section teams. University Prep Layne McFadden secured second-team honors while Enterprise Cat Ahart and Foothill Jaymes Arnold also earned spots among the regions elite players.
Redding Christian coach Scott Alexander received the Richard Hull Coach of the Year award after leading the Lions girls team to an outstanding 29-4 record, representing the best season in program history. The Lions captured the NSCIF Division VI championship and advanced all the way to the NorCal Division VI championship game.
The Northern Section continued its tradition of honoring legendary coaches by renaming annual awards after influential figures who shaped regional basketball. The boys basketball coach award now honors Westwood coach Phil Bryant, who retired in 2011 after winning a section-record 553 games during his 32-year career.
Bryant originated the Northern Section All-Star Basketball Game in 1996 and remains active in coaching, currently leading South Tahoe to league championship success in Nevada. His career record of 788-316 includes multiple state championships and represents sustained excellence across different programs.
The girls basketball award honors the late Willows coach Richard Hull, who created a dynasty by leading the Honkers to California state championships in 1987 and 1988. Hull won three Northern California championships during his career alongside four Northern Section titles and over a dozen league crowns.
These All-Section selections recognize not only individual excellence but also the coaches, programs, and communities that support high school basketball throughout Northern California, ensuring the sports continued growth and competitive standards.
